As you write a research paper or a report, you are required to make a list of works cited or bibliography. You need to choose a format or style, which are conventions used in various disciplines to acknowledge the sources consulted. The most common and easier to use is the MLA (Modern Language Association) style. The book "MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers," Seventh Edition offers guidance on research and writing, plagiarism and academic integrity, mechanics of writing, formating the research paper and documentation (preparing a list of works cited and in-text citation). It is available in the library both on the reference shelf (call # REF 808 MLA), and general collection (Call # 808 MLA), which can be checked out.
The supplements below also offer an explanation of the MLA, and examples of research papers (worth looking at!):

A note about footnote and endnote:
They are NOT used to cite sources as a replacementof in-text citation. They are used for comment, explanation, information that cannot be accomodated in the text, or evaluative comments on souces (bibliographic notes). See the in-text citation session for more details on how to make in-text citation.
Citation Machines: Those are easy to use online tools that help you organize sources and produce a bibliography or list of works cited. Some are free and some require a subscription. Here are some you might want to use:
EasyBib (www.easybib.com)
NoodleBib(www.noodletools.com)
Zotero (www.zotero.org) - It can be downloaded (only on Firefox) and allows you to collect, manage and cite research sources. It saves full reference of all online sources used.
